Damn! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I was not expecting to! The Line Between by Tosca Lee is an excellent cult thriller that had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish!
Wynter Roth is a young woman who has entered a doomsday cult, New Earth, with her mother and older sister when she’s roughly seven-years-old. Years later when she is told she has to become the leader’s second wife, she refuses. Wynter is kicked out of the place she has called home for so many years. With only the clothes on her back, and what she was told by the cult, Wynter makes her way out into the world.
Once outside the cult, she finds herself confused and overtaken by anxiety. What is real and what is fake? Was everything she was taught in the cult a lie? As she struggles with this, she seeks out a therapist who suggests she not watch TV, listen to the radio or go online in order to adjust to her new environment. As time progresses though, she starts to watch the news again, and slowly becomes aware that the horrifying things she hears is somehow linked to the knowledge she carries from her home, back at the cult.
When her sister ends up on her doorstep with samples, Wynter realises the knowledge she has from the cult is part of what is in that box of samples. With these in tote, she races to find someone who can try to slow the horror that will happen next across the country. That’s when she meets Chase Miller, a former military personnel, who works with Wynter to stop what is coming next.
This is a fast-paced post-apocalyptic thriller that had me entertained and wanting more. From the writing, the characters, to even the settings — the cult in Illinois, to Colorado, even through the back roads — it was a wild ride that I never saw coming!
I was honestly unable to put this one down because it captivated me so much. I didn’t want it to end. But surly when it did, I saw her sequel to this is coming out in September. So, if you’re like me and want more of Wynter and Lee’s writing, say tuned for her next book!
When you put together a doomsday cult and a pandemic of major proportions, you wind up with a damn good dystopian thriller that packs one hell of a punch! From the strong, smart and fearless lead character of Wynter, to Lee’s writing, even the pacing — you can’t go wrong with The Line Between by Tosca Lee. It is an action packed novel that is filled with twists and suspense! I highly recommend it. I can’t wait to read her next book, so watch out for that one soon!
Thank you Tosca Lee and Howard Books for an ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
